High winds scupper matchmen
Extremely high winds made conditions very difficult for the twenty Matchmen who turned up for the first Sunday League Match of the season. Fishing the "long Pole" was virtually impossible, and most anglers wanting to fish close to the far bank were opting for legering tactics. Bites were at a premium as bait presentation was constantly hampered by the winds.
Den Porter took home the "Ron Reed" memorial trophy with his match winning 14lb 7oz of Bream, all caught on the far bank with worm on the swim feeder. Next peg Mick Farmery came second, just one fish behind Den with 11lb 8oz. Almost everyone who framed or won their section needed either one or two big fish. Small fish are being caught in abundance to pleasure anglers on this lake but it seems the pressure of twenty or so matchmen is making them keep their little mouths well and truely shut!! Hopefully a settled spell of warm, consistant weather might get them back on the feed.
